What Makes LASER different?

The Legal Assistance for Economic Reform Programme (LASER) is not a traditional investment climate reform programme. We recognise that reform only works when it is country-owned and locally led. LASER does not come in with a set solution, but instead takes time to explore needs and potential avenues of support. This means that the assistance we provide targets reforms that are aligned with a partner country’s growth-led development priorities, and that make a real difference on the ground.

Delivering commercial law and justice support that is problem driven has achieved positive and sustainable results for in-country partners in both developing and fragile and conflict-affected environments. Our approach is also enabling DFID to learn more about the design and delivery of a multi-country adaptive programme.

LASER has a mandate to share its experience widely with donors, developing country governments and practitioners, and to influence the work of others based on research and lessons generated.
